UnF#ck Your Golf Brain — by Cameron Strachan
UNFK Golf

You don't have a swing problem. You have a thinking problem.

You play great on the range… but the moment it counts, everything falls apart. This will show you why — and how to fix it.

Unf#ck Your Golf Brain by Cameron Strachan

You play great on the range.

You play well in social rounds.

But the moment golf actually matters?

You tighten up.

You start steering it.

You overthink everything.

And suddenly… you're a completely different golfer.

You've tried to fix it.

More practice. More swing thoughts. More videos. More lessons.

But somehow — the more you try, the worse it gets.

That's not your swing. That's your brain getting in the way.

Before we go any further.

This isn't polite, technical golf instruction. And it won't sound like anything you've heard before.

It's about a guy named Ross who changed everything about how I played — and thought about — golf.

This happened years ago now. And I've never forgotten that day.

Picture this. It's 7:58 AM on a Saturday. Our group has been on the range since 7:00 — warming up properly like good little golfers. Stretching. Practice swings. Working on our fundamentals. Checking our swing planes.

Then Ross rolls up. Two minutes before tee time.

Shoelaces untied. Same clothes from the night before. Reeking of beer and bad decisions. Bloodshot eyes. No warm-up. No practice swings.

He stripes his first drive down the middle.

Then he does it again with his second shot.

Hole 2. Stripes it.

Hole 5. Flushes two perfect shots. Again.

Meanwhile, I'm doing everything right. Pre-shot routine. Checking my grip. Running through my swing thoughts. Trying to remember what my coach told me about the takeaway.

And I'm spraying it everywhere.

By hole 8, I'm well over par. Ross is two under. He's barely said a word all morning. Just walking, swinging, walking, swinging. Smoking. Whistling.

I'm a sweaty, frustrated mess.

I keep glancing across at him, trying to figure out what the hell he's doing differently. There's no warm-up. No fundamentals. No pre-shot routine. He just walks up to the ball and hits it.

And it goes exactly where he wants it to go.

Hole 12. Where it got personal.

I'd just chunked another wedge — came up agonisingly short, lead to another dumb bogey. I'm standing there, frustrated as hell, trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Ross walks over. Takes a drag on his cigarette. And says:

"Cameron, you know what your problem is? You think more than computers. And you play worse than when you started."

"Golf isn't about being perfect. It's about being free. And you've forgotten how to be free."

Then he proceeds to hit another perfect shot.

At the bar. Settling up bets.

Ross orders another beer and keeps bashing my little pea brain.

"The golf industry has turned you all into robots. You swing like machines, think like computers, and play like you're scared of your own shadow. Meanwhile, I just show up and play golf. And I beat you every single time."

He was right.

And that's when I realised…

If you're reading this, you're probably just like I was.

Trapped. Frustrated. Wondering why the hell golf has to be so damn hard.

Maybe you're the successful executive who closes million-dollar deals but can't close out a round under 90.

Maybe you've got a great practice swing on the range — and the moment a ball appears, your body forgets what it's doing.

Maybe you've spent years collecting tips, drills, swing thoughts, YouTube fixes — and somehow you're no better. Sometimes worse.

You're not broken. The model you've been using is.

Here's the truth nobody told you.

A great golf swing is as natural as throwing a ball.

When you're loose — at the range, between shots, mucking around with your mates — your body moves freely. No tension. No thought. Just rhythm.

The moment a ball appears and a score matters, your brain takes over. Tightens up. Starts running checklists. And the swing you owned ten seconds ago disappears.

You don't need to stop thinking. You need to think better. There's a difference between thoughts that help and thoughts that destroy your swing — and most golfers can't tell them apart.

That's what this book fixes.

Why smart, successful people struggle mostYour intelligence isn't the problem. The way you're using it on the course is. There's a right way to use a sharp brain in golf, and it's the opposite of what you've been told.

The brutal truth about "fixing"Every time you fix something, you break something else. Here's how to escape the endless tinkering cycle that's keeping you stuck.

Thinking better, not lessThe difference between thoughts that help and thoughts that sabotage. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

I had lessons every couple of weeks for years. Practiced hard between them. It took me seven years to grind from 110 down to 90 — incredibly frustrating, especially playing alongside guys who'd never had a lesson and were scoring better than me.

Eighteen months ago I stopped lessons completely. Focused on external thoughts & hitting the ball at the target. I now score low 80s and high 70s most rounds. I'm so much more relaxed on the course. And I love golf again.

Honestly? I'm a little pee'd off at the "golf community" — and at my own naivety for going down the lessons and technical route for eight wasted years. — Reader, after 10 years of conventional lessons

One last thing.

I've been writing golf books for over 20 years. I've coached players around the world. I've played to a below scratch handicap for nearly three decades — and I'll tell you straight: I don't play that way because I think more than other golfers. I play that way because I learned how to think less.

That's what this book is. The shortcut I wish someone had handed me thirty years ago.

If you're tired of the loop — the tips, the fixes, the tightening up the moment it counts — give yourself thirty bucks worth of permission to stop.
